Pre-NDP concert (SR style)
Last evening's concert was a total hit.
one word,
awesome.
the teachers' performances were splendid despite having only few rehearsals from Monday. I didn't think they would do so good for a thanksgiving concert from the start. Honestly they could all consider joining entertainment industry as a second career. :X And I love all my subject tutors, especially J2 ones. To think, 1st of Sept isn't even here yet, and I'm being 0o.
I reached college 3 minutes before the gathering time, and caught up with my class people. Everyone, not all ba, there were four telling me how twisted/sad/awesome the movie Secret is. Lols. and then Ethel went crazy talking about the Simpsons movie, and started singing spiderpig. Tina and Mr. Yong had a hard time settling us down, as usual. my class was real high beings. but anyway the march pass procession started. after singing the national anthem, to my surprise, we were made to say pledge in four different languages. Something which I didn't expect, and I'm totally clueless about the pledge in mandarin. I know only the first few lines, wo men shi xin jia po gong ming..
tata. The concert started with a bang as Dark Vader turned up in the hall. And I really mean Dark Vader, one in black costume, hood and mask. It's so crazy when Miss Koh announced the arrival of GOH, and only I in my class stood up... so embarassing, but who cares. and this vader guy turns up.. (for someone who doesn't watch starwars at all, I could still identify this weird looking guy) Anyway, he walked through the center aisle, and up the stand where another teacher (should be the princess) awaits. It was so hilarious when he took off his mask, turned out he was an Indian teacher wanting to woo the lady. And they were the emcees for the night. and they were super funny.. I completely forgot about 'me not losing my voice for the night' and joined ethel, meiling and peiwen in going gaga. LOLS. one thing for sure, we will never know the teachers' names because they J1 tutors. :(
the first performance - percussion sets was done by the math department. Mr. Lee, my J1 tutor was on stage beating a set of 'MU YU'. I don't know how the english translation, but it was something you normally will see a monk hitting in the temple. Thereafter was the wushu done by Miss Koh, Mr. Lee and another J1 tutor. Miss Koh is unpredictable. I think many of us were surprised by the fact that she knows wushu. But anyway, if I recall correctly, everything was happening too fast. and my mind was quite a blank during this period. after this is the dance performance done by the PE department. Mr. Yong, my Civics Tutor! He came back while he still has his reservice, think it's an off day for him. But anyway, they danced to "Stand by me" it was so nice. With Mr. Teng at the end mimicking Mr. Tan (our principal), saying "I have a dream, which is that all SRJCians will become graduates one day." that really spurs us (students) on. Way to go! Lead her to glory!
After which, the emcees changed to their characters in Matrix, Neo and Trinity. And then there was 'Deal or No Deal' SR edition, where Miss Yao, Mr. Looi (my vice principals) and another teacher acted as family members of the contestant. And there were all those gorgeous looking female teachers on the platform. hehehe. After was the English & Lit department doing skit on three of Shakespheres' classics. It was probably the best! 'Romeo and Juliet' was switched roles, where Mr. Fong acted a Hokkien speaking Juliet and Romeo was a horny one. Later McBeth earned the most cheers and applause from my cohort, for Mdm Ainon, our long term GP lecturer was acting on stage. She was McBeth, and was quarreling with his wife, Mr. Cherry chacko while applying GP terms inside. Absolute preposition, extent of truth, exception ... Jokes. Lastly, was the hole in the wall which I have no absolute idea what it's about. :P Next was Mr. Swee and Miss Chew singing Phantom of the Opera, which was super nice except the phantom shouldn't be dressed in shorts, long sleeved shirt and hood while the lady was in dress. that's a little 'disrespect'. hahaha.
there was also a cantonese song shared by Mr. Ow, our operation manager and a female lab. technician. too bad, they weren't singing shang hai tan, if not I would really join them in singing. and then, TA-DA. our SDM (student develop master) Mr. Phillip Tan, who was away for course for several months, came back to sing us a hokkien song 'Ai Ping Cai Hui Ying' (Fight to win) and ethel was complaining how aunty I was to know these songs.. :S If i wasn't wrong again, the emcess changed their roles in austin powers movie. HAHA. and it was the humanities performance now. according to ethel, they were doing Baby clones. I'm marvelled by the fact how they managed to get all the costumes and props done in such short notice. it's nice. And now we know what Mrs. Sim's role was when she was talking about the other day, holding on to the heavy black screen. And lastly it was a retro dance put up by the science department. twenty over people dancing on stage. All the male teachers were wearing a wig. and Mr. Nair, fyi my H1 physics tutor was wearin the biggest pompom wig among all teachers. while everyone is black, his was a yellow one. Lols. He was so funny. and there was Miss Cheng, my chemistry tutor. Omgs, she is so wow. Love the dance item so so much!
Finally, it was our principal's turn to perform. He dedicated a chinese song, 'hai ou' to J1s first, and for once we though he was biased because they raised so much money for the fundraising event. But anyway, he sang the J2s our theme song, "If we hold on together". Everyone around me sang la. For a minute, I felt like crying and Mr. Tan too. It's as though our graduation day... omgs... all rights, I'm being emo.. :S The night was brought to highest swing when we finally sang the college anthem. I must really comment. Yesterday was one of the few occasions that J2s sang college anthem loud and clear, like so proud of being a SRJCian. Last time was probably a year ago when we first came in as freshmen. :P When the principal called for a day, students, including me and my friends were shouting encore. hahaha, we just refused to budge. Our legs were already so sore. and Mr. Tan compromised us and sang us another song with the piano. He was so nice laa. After the song, we really had to go. The HOD of math took the mic and began shooing us away. Everyone was so high after the concert, it really was a smash. And then, a group of hungry us, Meiling, Peiwen, Jiaqing, Yinwei, Shiyong, Wenhui and Jeremy went to the nearby famous Nasi Lemak Food Court for dinner/supper. and end of story.
I reached home near ten, watched the last few minutes of honor and passion. showered and indulged myself in Ethel's book. Finished reading it around 130am. Can you keep a secret was real nice. I love romance stories. hahaha. thanks ethel. off to lunch.
Lead her to Glory~
by the way,
Happy Birthday, Singapore!!!
