gray area - YuN Nan
I was free my parents' reins for 9 days; everyone will think its fantastic. but during the trip i missed them most dearly! my mom's meals and my dad's tempers. i couldnt stand the food there, oily and salty..because of that, i sent sms home. bit pathetic right? hahaha. the first time i sent, i was at Dali. the place was super cold at night. it made me feel nostalgic. i was complaining that the feathers from my coat is dropping and then my dad called immediately. hehehe. so good right. though overseas calls are pretty expensive, he still make the calls. and im so touched laa.
the first few days, i couldnt adapt to the cold climate and food. worry that i didnt bring enough warm clothing to the place. heard that at shangri-la, temperature at night can drop below 20 degrees. well it's a myth laa. my tour leader even laughed at me when my aunt told him.. brrz.. saying it will only drop below 2 degrees not 20.. it's not my fault either.. the kunming's tour guide said things that makes ppl misunderstand one.. but anyway.. after we made to lugu lake and shangri-la. hahaha, im not scared of cold loh!
i think i like lijiang the best because of the scenary. the weather isnt that cold in the afternoon. lugu-lake left a lasting impression on me because of the marriage customs that the mo-suo tribe believes in. men and women there dont marry even if they love one another. their relationships are not tied down to nuptial ties; they can choose to break up and leave once one party has no more feelings for the other one. if they have a child during the period, the man does not need to bear any responsiblity of bringing up the child financially or emotionally. the woman's family will look after the child and bring him or she up themselves. which is why most of the time the kids there dont know who their fathers are. because fathers dont stay with their wives or children. every morning, the man must return to his mother's home after spending a night at his 'wife's' place. weird right.. somehow i dont agree to such marriage.. too liberal le..
i saw snow at shangri-la. first time in my life. last time i went beijing korea, didnt even see snow. but this time i saw it. haha, so excited!! after spending a day shangri-la, we were supposed to return kunming by flight. but because of the snow the night before, the runways were frozen and many flights to kunming and tibet were delayed. needless to say, that includes my flight as well.. =_= all flights were delayed by at least three hours.. and we were forced to stay at the airport and were distributed bowl noodles.. zzz. it was my first experience of eating instant noodles at the airport. -_-"
the day before i returned to singapore, guess who i saw? my chemistry tutor, miss cheng at kunming's airport.. shocking right? what a fateful night.. it turned out that the teachers were bringing students to LiJiang for CIP. and we happened to take the same flight home. LOL. i saw my econs lecturer, mr tan. physics tutor mr ow. and a chinese tutor miss seah. jokes man
regrets? not really, i really do enjoy myself at Yunnan.. though there was unpleasant times then, but i had fond memories there as well. hehehes! i love Yunnan! i swear i will go back shangri-la again, probably around may or june. so i can see flowers! hahaha.
next time, i want to go tibet lor. cant stand.. must look for a job.. and stop dreaming..
